Lesson from a beggar

It was saturday late morning. My husband and I were at a traffic light in the city centre. As usual, a beggar was collecting money. We were two cars away, some money ready to be handed out and the finger on the button to lower the window. The beggar seemed to be discussing with the person in the car in front of us. It looked like an angry discussion. I imagine he was explaining his innocence and justifying his existence as a beggar. This discussion with somebody who provoked him without giving him money, stole his attention so long that the traffic light went green. My husband and I had to start the car, disappointed and unable to give him our contribution.

This scene made me think.

"How many times do I focus my attention towards people who challenge my endeavor and miss the opportunity to benefit from the attention of those who support my activities?"
